When dealing with oily woods, it's a good idea to use Tannin, if I'm saying that right. Now, I'm no expert, just seen it show up in some videos, not sure of the process, or the intricacies involved, but it's something I will try to keep in mind and research more when I get to using these types of woods. Great job on this build, much gratitude for you sharing this with us.

I got some nice ash wood at home and plan to make a cutting board. I now read that ash wood is an open end grain and might not be the best for cutting boards. What is your opinion on open and closed end grain for cutting boards?

Seattle's a LOVELY town...I hope he's enjoying himself. It's good he got out of Canada before they shut the doors and make it a communist country. 5 minute epoxy releases MUCH easier from silicone. Tuck tape also works well on the lining of the mold. Like all the artists who used the wet-on-wet techniques, and made magic white...no one will know just how toxic the fumes are until they die of cancer. CA is incredibly toxic. You do lovely work, but I thought you were supposed to hold the tool at an angle?

looks great. one suggestion, use clear exopy first to avoid bleed of black epoxy into the pocket.

If using this method to make/sell pens, your gunna have some very unhappy clients and a heap of refunds to sort out. Introducing even the smallest amount of moisture back into the timber while wet sanding the acrylic, then trapping it underneath the timber finsh, is a sure way to achieve problems or failures with this pen in the not so distant further. Hammer time. 😂. Just wanted to say that. Hell if it’s still an option Id be all over that walnut mallet. Nice work. Wouldn’t mind a mallet from another woodworker. Currently I make mine with the striking head 1 solid piece of wood by chiseling the mortis for the handle an adding the pretty face after. I enjoyed watching.
